Axolotls have become one of those animals kids are genuinely obsessed with — and it’s easy to see why. That permanent little smile, the feathery gills, the way they just float there looking pleased with themselves. We put together 30 free printable axolotl coloring pages that lean into everything kids love about them, from simple cute kawaii designs to more detailed scenes with backgrounds.
Some pages are just a big axolotl face with bubbles — simple enough for a three-year-old who just wants to grab a pink crayon and go. Others have more going on: a boba cup to fill in, a treasure chest scene, a birthday party with balloons and confetti. A couple of the adult ones take a while — the mandala and the floral page especially. Every page has a real background, so nothing ends up floating in the middle of a blank white sheet.
The set covers a lot of ground. There are cute kawaii axolotls, a realistic one resting on a lakebed, seasonal designs for Christmas and Easter, a boba axolotl, a birthday scene, a mandala for adults, and a tracing worksheet for younger kids. Every page is drawn full-bleed with a real background — no character floating in the middle of a blank white sheet.
Every page is a free printable PDF — no account, no email, no sign-up. Click any image below to open the PDF, then print on US Letter or A4 at home, in the classroom, or for homeschool use.

5 Fun Things to Do With Your Finished Axolotl Pages
Axolotl Aquarium Diorama
Color the pet aquarium page, cut it out, and glue it to the inside of a shoebox. Add blue cellophane for water and tissue paper plants — instant axolotl habitat your kid built themselves.
Boba Cup Bookmark
Print and color the boba axolotl page at 50% size. Cut around the axolotl and cup, laminate it or cover with clear tape, and punch a hole at the top for a ribbon. Best bookmark a reading corner has ever seen.
Birthday Party Invitation
Color the birthday cupcake or party hat axolotl page and write party details in the blank space around it. Scan it and send digitally, or just hand them out as printed invites.
Treasure Map Game
Color the treasure chest page, then draw a simple map on the back showing “where the axolotl hid his treasure.” Hide a small treat somewhere at home and let kids follow the map to find it.
Mini Axolotl Fact Book
Print the tracing worksheet, the name label page, and the realistic lakebed page together. Let kids color all three, staple them, and write one axolotl fact on each page. Great for a school project or just because axolotls are genuinely fascinating animals.
Seasonal Wall Display
Color the winter scarf page in December, the Easter page in spring, and the birthday page for someone’s special day. Pin them to a cork board and swap them out through the year — a rotating axolotl gallery that never gets old.
